ABSTRACT
Foillanus is an Irish saint (+c. 655 in Fosses, Namur), brother of St Furseus and St Ultanus. Furseus commended him the abbacy of the convent of Cnobheresburg (Suffolk). When the cloister was destroyed in 651 by Penda, king of Mercia, he left with books and relics for France, and arrived in Nivelles, where St Ida and St Gertrude enabled him to build a cloister in Fossa (Fosses-la-Ville). He was murdered by brigands in Fosses, during a visitation journey.
