...ende der heyliger jonckvrouwe Sinte Barbara dit wonderlijck mirakel, waerachtig geschiet wesende, in schrift geset ende achtergelaten etc.
Sex: M- Bio: canon in Gorkum; born in 1416/17 in Gorkum; priest, canon and subdeacon at the church of St. Martin and St. Vincent; he died in or after 1493. (NaSo 276): Canon in Gorinchem, maybe Dirk Frankenszoon Pauw (Carasso-Kok). (NaSo 1417): The author made himself known at the end of the story: Huc usque certificatum est tunc, a principio usque nunc, ab honesto viro Jacobo Deyn, qui est juratus balistarius et custos corporis principis Karoli ducis, tempore belli vel guerrae, ac etiam ballivus de Arden, in comitatu de Ghisen, de quo natus est, qui omnia praedicta fere vidit, et semper in omnibus praesens fuit. Et is Theoderico Pauli alias Franconis canonico in Gorinchem petitione aliquorum honestorum, sub omni enarravit (De Ram ed., 231). (NaSo 1418): The author mentioned himself several times (ff. 23, 28, 104v, 285v), f. 285v: Liber iste pertinet domino Theoderico Pauli de Ghorinchem presbitero, qui et eundem conscripsit propria manu. (NaSo 1572): According to the AASS ed., the name of the author can be found in the prologue: 'Quae quidem ego Theodericus Pauli, presbyter minimus et licet indignus vicedecanus tamen ecelesiae ss. Martini et Vincentii in oppido de Gorinchem Trajectensis dioecesis munimine sigilli venerabilis patris et domini, domini Joannis de Arckel episcopi Trajectensium postea Leodiensium ecclesiarum roborata legendo repperi.' (NaSo 1709): In the text Marcellinus, companion of St Willibrordus and St Suitbertus, mentioned as the author. The text as a whole is, however, a 15th century fraud. Gerard of Harderwijk, rector of the grammar-school in Cologne, used te be considered to be the author, but nowadays Dirk Frankenszoon Pauw is assumed te be the composer. (NaSo 1838) : The authorship is not certain, although the author made himself known three times (p. 1059-1060, 1159, 1244):...Theodericus Pauli canonicus Gorinchemengis… (NaSo 1839): The author made himself known several times in the Trier ms (f.2v, 92v, 100v, 109v). (NaSo 1840): Following Hulshof the authorship of Theodericus Pauli is generally accepted because of the conformity with his Chronicon Hollandiae (NaSo 1838). It is, however, more likely that another author composed the Historia using Pauli's work (VAN DER WERFF, 12-13). (NaSo 1841): According to Bruch Dirk Frankenszoon Pauw was the author. The author was only mentioned in the Gorinchem ms: die cronijck tsheere Dirck Pau'Franckensz. voertijts canonick in die parochiekerke tot Gorinchem van die heerlichyt van Arckell. According to Van der Werff Pauw cannot be the author. Waale (1992) argued that the preserved manuscripts contain different versions of a chronicle, not available anymore, written in Dutch by Pauw, based on his Chronicon Hollandiae (NL0278). The Chronica was closest related to Pauw's works. (NaSo 1842): De schrijver noemt zich herhaaldelijk (ff. 300, 321v, 370v, 371, 389v, 394, 430v), f. 300v: Ego Theodericus Pauli ex territorio et domino de Arkel, oppido de Gorinchem natus...incipiens anno etatis mee septuagesimo tercio canonicatus sive sacerdotii mei anno quadragesimo septimo... anno Domini millesimo quadringentesimo octuagesimo nono.-Status author (order, function): Augustinian Canons (CSA)
