Barbara Disquis (?)

Sex: F- Bio: Barbara Disquis ( 1568), a daughter of emperor Maximilian of Austria, entered the monastery of St Gertrude in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1495. It is almost certain that she was the author of some parts of the chronicle, because the author of the chronicle speaks in the first person of Barbara Disquis. Another person of the monastery of St Gertrude wrote other parts of the chronicle. The parts in which events from the second half of the 16th century are described, must have been written outside the monastery (Van Bavel (1980) 3).-Status author (order, function): Augustinian Canons (CSA)

Het Sint-Gertrudisklooster was een klooster van augustijner regularissen. Het is gesticht in 1448 en het sloot zich in 1455 aan bij het Kapittel van Venlo.

ABSTRACT

The chronicle of the monastery of St Gertrude in 's-Hertogenbosch contains information on the history of the monastery, a story on the relationship between the monastery and Arnoud, duke of Gelre (f. 35r), four stories of the nun Barbara Disquis, who was visited by her family several times (ff. 47v, 51r, 57r and 76r), and a note on the Miracle Book of 's-Hertogenbosch (f. 192).
