In the chronicle included in the series in Latin (NL0259) the origin of the Lords was carried back to Heyneman, who came from Hungary to Holland during the reign of Count Dirk II of Holland. Willem of Berchen (NL0297)and Theodericus Pauli (NL0278, NL0279, NL0281, T017) wrote also about this family. Theodericus Pauli mentionned Hercules Alemannus from Troy as the progenitor and also told the legend of the swan.

Chronicle of the lords of Arkel until c.1470, wherein the origin of the family has been traced back to Troy and the legend of the swan, who brought their ancestor to Arkel, has been told, see also the chronicle of Willem of Berchen (NL0297).
