In this role, he became one of the mentors of the young Habsburg prince. A lot of his works were written with an educational purpose and a moralistic undertone in service of the young prince’s upbringing, touching subjects such as chivalry, government and princely conduct (Devaux 2003). Examples of such works are the ‘Mémoires’ (NaSo O009), ‘l’Epistre pour tenir et celebrer la noble feste du Thoison d’or’ (NaSo O007), ‘le Livre de l’advis du gaige de bataille’ (NaSo O013), etc.-Status author (order, function):

CONTEXT
It could very well be that the chronicle was written because of the education of Philip the Fair. Next to that, the work had an obvious political theme. Since the chronicle does not mention the conquest of Burgundy by the French king Louis IX and since the rights of Charles the Bold on the duchy are so explicitly stressed, the work explicitly makes a claim on the lost territory.
ABSTRACT
The chronicle narrates the history of the kings and dukes of Burgundy up to Maximilian. It was written to stress the historical importance of the Burgundian princely house and to confirm the rights of Charles the Bold held over the duchy of Burgundy.
