CONTEXT

ABSTRACT

Life of S. Babylas, patriarch of Antioch (+ ca. 250). According to legend Babylas refused the pagan emperor Decius access to his church. For this Babylas was sentenced to death but he died already in his chains while waiting on the penalty execution. Before his death Babylas requested that he wanted to be burried in his chains as a proof of the fact that he wanted nothing more than to suffer for Christ.
