ABSTRACT
Biography of St. John, son of St. Zebedee and St. Mary Salome and younger brother of Saint James the Great. Like his father and brother John worked as a fisherman on the lake of Gennesaret. One day, while fishing, Jesus called him to be his follower. John was the youngest of the twelve apostles and said to have been the most beloved disciple of Jesus. After Christ's ascension he preached in Samaria, Jerusalem and cities like Ephesus, Smyrna, Philadelphia and Laodicea. According to tradition, John did several miraculous works including the resuscitation of a number of deaths. Because of his missionary deeds he underwent numerous tortures and persecutions. Nevertheless, he escaped martyrdom and was the only apostle who died a natural death. (approx 100 +)
