ABSTRACT
Life of St. Matthew (Matthaeus Apostolus) (+1 th century). He was a tax collector at Capernaum. One day in the Tollhouse he was called by Christ to become one of his disciples. Later, in addition to his role as an apostle, Matthew also became one of the four evangelists. He wrote the first gospel in Hebrew. Eventually Matthew died through torture.
