Wauchier de Denain, Waulchier de Denain

Sex: M- Bio: In the beginning of the 13th century his works were commissioned by Philip, count of Namur (+1212), and of Joanna of Constantinople, countess of Flanders and Hainault (+1244); he translated several Latin works. Wauchier de Denain was clerc at the court of Roger IV, châtelain of Lille (1st third of the 13th century). CONTEXT

ABSTRACT

Life of St. Hilarion the Great (+ 371). He was born in Thabatha from pagan parents but was converted as a young man with the result that he became the pupil of the desert monk St. Anthony. After his example Hilarion lived as a hermit in Palestine, near Majuma, the port of Gaza, where he founded several monasteries. Nevertheless, there was such a large influx of believers that Hilarion escaped the crowds about 360 by traveling to Egypt, then off to Sicily, Dalmatia and eventually arrived in Cyprus where he regained the solitude of a life as hermit.
