ABSTRACT
Life of Saint Giles of Nîmes (+710). Giles was born in Athens but travels to France to live there as a hermit. During his secluded life in the forest of Nîmes Aegidius was fed with the milk of a tame doe. According to legend the Visigoth King Wamba tried to shoot this animal with an arrow during the hunt but Aegidius got wounded instead. The king showed his regret by offering Giles a large sum of money which he used for the foundation of a new Benedictine monastery, where he later became abbot.
