CONTEXT

According to Axters, this text is a Latin translation in the third person of a text written in Middle Dutch in the first person, by the beguine herself or her confessor. Tongeren had an active beguine community from 1243 at the latest (St-James), part of wich relocated to a beguine court (St-Catherine).

ABSTRACT

A dialogue between (the soul of) a young beguine and Christ, in which Christ commands her to build a house for him inside herself and clothes her with virtues so she can enter the kingdom of God, her spouse.
