CONTEXT
The text was written by Guibert, a monk and abbot of Gembloux, at the end of his life or, according to Delehaye, by an anonymous monk from Gembloux in Guibert's persona. It was actually intended as a preface to the collection of letter treatises by Guibert. The text ends abruptly and was probably not yet finished.
ABSTRACT
Despite its misleading modern-day title this text does not focus solely on the fire that partly destroyed the abbey of Gembloux, but rather on the life and works of Guibert of Gembloux.
