Sex: M- Bio: Born in Ypres, he became a monk (entered c.1340) and afterwards (24 March 1365) the abbot of St Bertin’s at Saint-Omer (+2 January 1383). As a monk, Jean le Long stayed in Paris for some time, studying law.-Status author (order, function): Benedictine Monks (OSB)

CONTEXT

Jean le Long most probably examined the texts he translated during his studies in Paris. Perhaps in the rich library of the abbey of Saint-Germain des Prés, where he possibly resided (see Ph. Ménard and A. Andreose).

ABSTRACT

French translation of the Flos historiarum Orientis, the Latin translation of Hayton of Corycus' Flor des estoires, originally written (and dictated) in French. Jean le Long accurately translated from the Latin text, although he contracted the narrative and implemented a new structure.
