The authors of this chronicle and a different version in Dutch (NL0272) were critical with regard to the origin of the family. Probably two versions in Latin (NL0268, NL0269) reflected the oldest tradition with regard to the origin of the Lords of Egmond tracing this back until the Friesian King Radbod. Another version explained the origin from the advocates of the abbey of Egmond (NL0270). See also Willem of Berchen (NL0295) and Jan Gerbrandsz. of Leiden (NL0286, NL0287).
