ABSTRACT
Life of S. Brendan (+ca. 577). Brendan was an Irish monk, abbot and founder of several monasteries. One time he read a book in which many miracles and divine matters were described, that he refused to believe. Because of his unbelief the monk was given the order by an angel to go sailing for nine years and to see for himself what was truth or lie. On his journey to the islands west of Ireland, Brendan searched for earthly Paradise and Hell.
