Levensbeschrijving van de H. Agatha Catanae. Deze christelijke maagd was afkomstig uit Catania op het eiland Sicilië. Zij weigerde de stadshouder Quintianus te huwen. Bijgevolg liet hij haar gevangennemen. Toen Agatha in gevangenschap de heidense rituelen, waartoe Quintanius haar dwong afzwoer, werd zij opgesloten in een bordeel. Omdat Agatha trouw bleef aan haar geloof werd zij herhaaldelijk gemarteld en de borsten afgesneden. Uiteindelijk stierf zij aan haar verwondingen (+ 3e eeuw).
