Mogelijk paus Alexander III of Gauillaume de Blois (1135-1202), ook wel Guillaume aux Blanches Mains genaamd, aartsbisschop van Sens en later van Reims. Hij wierp zich op als beschermheer en aanhanger van Becket tijdens die zijn ballingschap in Frankrijk (1164-1170).

Levensbeschrijving van Thomas Becket, aartsbisschop van Canterbury, in versvorm. Het gedicht verhaalt de belangrijkste gebeurtenissen uit Beckets bisschoppelijke carrière: zijn zeteling in de raad van Northampton, de periode van zijn ballingschap en ascetisch leven in Frankrijk, etc. Daarnaast vormt deze vita een satirische aanklacht tegen de morele verdorvenheid van de Engelse bisschoppen, die zich inlieten met geldgewin en het celibaat schaamteloos overtraden.
